Ill. tollway collects millions from Ind. violators

January 28, 2011

In August 2010, the Illinois Tollway sent out more than 85,000 tollway violation bills to Indiana residents. The bills were for unpaid tolls and fines dating back to May 2008.

The Hoosier motorists got a break on collections while the tollway's violation notice system was inadvertently turned off.

While it was estimated that Indiana motorists owed more than $7 million in past fines and tolls, but tollway board member Bill Morris says the agency is OK with the $5 million received because it is more than they thought they'd get.
