Cook County cuts jobs to meet budget

February 9, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Also, Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios told the county board finance committee Wednesday he will cut nearly 60 jobs in his office. He says he will meet Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle's call for a 16-percent cut in his budget.

"We are putting in different procedures, so that at the end of the day we will save money and be able to continue the services we give to all constituents here in Cook County," Berrios said.

Budget hearings are expected to continue throughout the month. The board must approve the budget by February 28th.
