Valentine's Day ideas: Romantic gifts, getaways, flowers

February 10, 2011 (CHICAGO)

How about a pretty- and possibly pricey- gift from Tiffany and Company?

"People seek primarily heart-shaped pendants, rings and anything with diamonds," Liza Ziot of Tiffany and Co. said. For men it's "time pieces, watches, cuff links."

Ronsley Special Events is known for its beautiful flowers from around the world. On Thursday, staff was busy arranging and preparing floral arrangements for that special someone. Ronsley President Michael Leventhal said business is booming this year and roses are always a special gift of for Valentine's Day.

"Business is sensational. And we'll probably have 30 to 45 percent higher than last year in 2010. The economy has improved greatly for what we do. On Valentine's Day, flowers are a great way to say I love you and that's never going away," Leventhal said.

Another option- an overnight stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago. The hotel is indulging guests who purchase a bottle of Dom Perignon with a complimentary stay in its special Valentine's suite, which overlooks the lakefront and city. The stay is good for another night.

"This is a great backdrop for a romantic weekend and the twinkling views of the Mag Mile and Lake MIchigan," Terri Hickey said.

Also always popular - and easier on the budget, dark chocolate and red wine.
