Daley outlines possible new gun control laws

February 14, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The laws include increasing the penalty for selling a gun to a minor or a convicted felon, requiring gun dealers to be licensed by the state and requiring background checks for the purchase of guns at all gun shows.

The mayor said more than 3,000 teens and children die from gun violence in the U.S. each year.

"How do you wake up America? That's the thing I wonder about. How do we shock the conscience? How do we show them that you're killing our young people and our family members on a daily basis," said Daley.

Daley said he will continue his effort to change gun laws even after he leaves office this spring.
