Dorothy Brown's office announced the layoffs Monday as part of cuts being made throughout county government.
Brown, whose office is the official record keeper of county court cases, did not say where the layoffs were happening.
Board president Toni Preckwinkle asked county-elected leaders to cut 16 percent of their budgets.
Brown says she did as requested, but it will put a "high strain" on her office.
