City helps citizens prepare for an emergency

February 18, 2011

Office of Emergency Management Executive Director Jose Santiago says it's important to take action before a natural disaster like a storm hits.

When a home is damaged or destroyed important financial records can be lost.

Federal agencies are urging people to get direct deposit of benefit checks.

"Having direct deposit is important, because in the event of an emergency or weather event such as the recent blizzard, mail service could be interrupted and people can lose access to checks," Santiago said.

For more information on how to protect your financial records head to the city's website to fill out an emergency financial first aid kit.
