Majority of pets overweight, study says

February 23, 2011

A survey from the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention finds more than half of our furry friends are overweight.

The survey found 55 percent of dogs and 53 percent of cats carry too many extra pounds.

Veterinarians say obesity in pets can lead to many of the same problems it does in people, including diabetes and kidney disease.

Vets say pets can become overweight if they have a poor diet and don't get enough exercise.
