Elmhurst native wins Oscar for work on 'Inception'

February 27, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Wally Pfister took home the Oscar for cinematography for his work on the movie "Inception."

He called it a "surreal" moment.

He told The Daily Herald he would probably crack open a bottle of champagne with his wife if he won the Oscar Saturday night.

Joliet native Carey Villegas was nominated in the visual effects category for the movie '"Alice in Wonderland" but he did not win.

Chicagoans turn out for local Oscar party
On Sunday night of the Academy Awards, Chicago had its own red carpet.

It was outside the Gene Siskel Film Center on North State Street.

The theater hosted its annual Oscar Night America -- the only event in Chicago that is sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

After walking the red carpet, guests had dinner and watched the Oscars.

Look for reaction from the Hollywood after-parties and more backstage interviews on ABC7 News Monday morning starting at 4:30 a.m.
