McHenry state's attorney facing added charges

February 28, 2011 (CHICAGO)

He is already scheduled to go on trial next month on charges announced last September.

Monday, a special prosecutor revealed new charges against Bianchi and two of his investigators, Ron Salgado and Michael McCleary. They include directing an assistant state's attorney to reduce a prison sentence for Salgado's nephew.

The special prosecutor says in another instance Bianchi told an assistant state's attorney to offer a crime victim a written apology from the suspect in return for her dismissing the case.

"Mr. Bianchi knew at the time that he began working on that case that the defendant and his wife had been political contributors to Mr. Bianchi," said special prosecutor Thomas K. McQueen.

McCleary IS accused of using a county car for personal business.
