Sources: Quinn close to death penalty decision

March 3, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Sources close to the governor who appeared at an unrelated event Thursday night say he still wants to hear from more people on the issue.

Even though Quinn had been a supporter of the death penalty he has allowed a moratorium on capital punishment to remain in force.

The legislature passed a bill to eliminate the death penalty and Quinn has until March 18 to decide whether to sign it. After that it becomes law without his signature.
