Bears Coach Lovie Smith saw how diabetes impacted his late mother's life. Now, he's working to help others living with the disease.

On Sunday, he and his wife hosted the seventh annual Care to Cure benefit for the American Diabetes Association.

It took place at Soldier Field. The event raises money for research. It also helps support a summer camp for children with diabetes.

"What we're here for today is to make the lives of those living with the disease a lot better," Lovie Smith said.

"Camp is critical for young people. They need to know that there are other people like them. They need that bonding. They need that help with their self-esteem. They need to know they're not so different after all," said Smith's wife Mary Anne.

Guests at Sunday's benefit enjoyed a brunch, silent auction and VIPs took a behind-the-scenes tour of Soldier Field.
