Spring arrives early at Flower and Garden Show

March 7, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Visitors can get a little inspiration for their own garden or just enjoy nature's beauty.

The Chicago Flower and Garden runs through March 13. Admission is only $15 for adults and $5 for kids.

While there is a vast array of flowers and landscaping ideas, that's just a small part of what this show is about.

Dogs and owners can have a ball in a relatively small amount of space.

"We're setting up equipment which is very affordable and the dogs get a lot of entertainment, they love running around and following an owner's lead," said Beverley Petrunich, DoGone Fun!.

Growing and preparing vegetables from your garden is also being displayed by some of the finest chefs of Chicago.

"You can walk out in your garden for many types of vegetables. I grow all my herbs and spices," said Federico Comacchao, Chef 437 Rush.

Some of the other exhibits include a kids activity garden, a large eco-friendly trellis made entirely out of recycled wood and a gorgeous garden of imported tulips.

"This garden has 45 varieties. They're grown in Holland and we ship them to the United States,"said Partick Romijn, Stuifbergen Flower Bulb Export.

The tulips from the garden will be replaced Tuesday so that they are in full bloom for the entire show.

For those attending the show Monday, the overall review was positive.

"The show is really fun. Come down to Navy Pier and see it. It is a lot of fun," said Kerry and Mikalea Reyes

"I have seen a lot of beautiful flowers and a lot of great ideas, so I tell my husband that we will do them in our backyard," said Sandi Szymborski.
