Chicagoans rally to keep TIF funds for schools

March 19, 2011 (CHICAGO)

They demonstrated at Jenner School and heard charges that tax increment financing districts take a quarter-billion dollars yearly from public schools.

Orr said some TIF funds go not to develop blighted areas as intended, but to "fat cats."

The protestors then marched for education.

They included officials of the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization, Albany Park Neighborhood Council, and Local No. 1 of The Unite Here Union.
