Daley launches 'Chicago-China Friendship Initiative'

March 20, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The campaign's goals are to raise Chicago's profile as an international city of commerce and to establish Chicago as the most "China friendly" city in the country, according to a news release.

"There has never been a better time to expand the city's connections with China. No other American city is so committed to a long-term strategy of friendship and cooperation with China as Chicago," Daley said in the release.

The theme of the campaign is "Chicago: The Heart of America," which was chosen for many reasons including "the city's central geographical location in the United States; its historic and continuing role as the business, financial, transportation and cultural center of the Midwest; its welcoming attitude toward business; its friendly people and collaborative spirit," the release said.

The campaign will feature multimedia advertising, including a 30-second television ad that higlights aspects of Chicago that would have the most impact in China, such as Chicago's thriving business community, the release said.

Daley is visiting China from March 18 through March 30.
