Weekday v. weekend emergency visits

March 22, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Previous studies have shown patients suffering stroke and other serious issues that put them in intensive care units from Friday to Monday are more likely to have complications or die. The latest study found patients suffering injuries were slightly less likely to die if they came in after 6 p.m. on Friday and before 9 a.m. on Monday. The reason? Scientists believe hospitals are not as busy on the weekend and that might free up resources.
