Chance Jackson remains in critical condition at an Indianapolis hospital.
He was shot Friday morning at a middle school in Martinsville.
Police took a former classmate into custody.
Some in Martinsville gathered this weekend to pray for Jackson, the alleged shooter and the entire community.
"Many, many lives have been affected. Many lives will be touched for days, perhaps years to come," said Martinsville Mayor Phil Deckard.
"I was about to walk out and my friends came and pushed me away from the door and told me that there were gunshots. It was overwhelming, it was scary," said student Keri Kemp.
"My daughter is scared to go back to school and I'm scared for her," said mother Rachel Kemp.
One speaker at the prayer service says people now know their community is not immune to violence.
The alleged shooter could be charged this week.
