Report: O'Hare expansion creates safety concerns

March 28, 2011 (CHICAGO)

According to the Chicago Tribune, in one incident, a pilot of a Boeing 747 reporting that in July 2007, he landed at O'Hare unaware the runway had been shortened for construction.

The Tribune report indicates the potential for disaster has prompted the FAA to begin revising its daily alerts to pilots about airfield conditions and other procedures.

City officials say the expansion work meets FAA safety standards, but more can be done to improve safety.
