The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google is in talks with Mastercard and Citigroup to create an app that would allow Android phone users to make purchases by waving their smartphones in front of an electronic reader at the checkout counter.
The payment system would offer users an easier way to make payments. It would also give retailers who use the system data about customers so they can target their smartphones with ads and discount offers.
