In a posting on his website, Alderman Patrick O'Connor says many residents near the hospital have reported seeing coyotes.
Residents have also reported hearing what sounds like a chorus of them howling in response to ambulance sirens.
Coyotes vanished from the Chicago area by the end of the 19th century. They have made a comeback in recent years.
Because the city of Chicago does not trap or "disable" coyotes, the alderman is encouraging residents to be cautious should they encounter one.
