A new study by Chicago-based TransUnion finds that Americans are more likely to pay their credit card bills than make their mortgage payments.

Traditionally, consumers have put more emphasis on paying their mortgages. TransUnion says home value depreciation and unemployment are to blame.

In the fourth quarter of last year, just over 7 percent of consumers paid their credit cards but not their mortgages. That's compared to 3 percent who were behind on their credit card bills but were paying their mortgages.
