The shooting happened at approximately 12 a.m. on the eastbound Eisenhower. The victim was driving a Chevrolet Lumina east near Central Avenue when a dark-colored, and possibly older model, Ford Explorer pulled alongside him and someone inside shot him multiple times from a passenger window, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Master Sgt. Jeff Kashmier.
The motorist was somehow was able to continue east and exited, making it to Sacramento and Roosevelt, according to Kashmier.
Paramedics responded to that intersection 12:34 a.m. and the victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis.
No one was in custody later Saturday morning. Police say their investigation continues.
Traffic was stopped on the inbound Eisenhower following the incident but all lanes were reopened to traffic shortly before 3:30 a.m.(The Sun-Times Media Wire contributed to this report.)
