Study: Too much soy no problem for cancer patients

April 5, 2011

Soy products contain chemicals called isoflavones. Some fear too much of this substance might increase the risk of disease recurrence among breast cancer patients.

A new study from Vanderbilt University Medical Center finds no need to worry. More than 16,000 women were followed. The study concludes soy foods did not increase the risk of cancer coming back and were beneficial as part of a healthy diet.

The findings apply to soy foods, not to soy supplements.
