Stakeholders vote on fate of Burr Oak Cemetery

April 8, 2011 (ALSIP, Ill.)

Ballots have been mailed to the 3,000 individuals and businesses with a stake in the historically black cemetery in south suburban Alsip. If a majority of them vote yes, a trustee will take over the cemetery and it will be able to bury those who already bought grave plots there. If they oppose it, the cemetery's assets could be liquidated.

The parent company of Burr Oak declared bankruptcy after a grave reselling scandal and the discovery of poor conditions there two years ago.
