Mortgage Relief Project helps local homeowners

April 9, 2011 (CHICAGO)

On Saturday, the Mortgage Relief Project helped Chicago area property owners re-work their mortgages.

Many homeowners who are behind on their mortgages were able to obtain a 90-day grace period by entering housing counseling.

State agencies teamed up with local elected officials to provide helpful advice about refinancing, legal rights and credit counseling.

"The rate of foreclosure and mortgages in Illinois is going down. I'm hoping that today we can make it go down a little further. And I'm hoping that everyone here is able to obtain some success, some information, some knowledge," Quinn said.

Saturday's workshop is the 19th stop in a statewide tour designed to help homeowners exercise their rights under the law.
