Kids' wrist bone size might be linked to heart health

April 12, 2011

A new study in the journal Circulation shows that overweight children with a larger wrist bone measurement had higher insulin resistance, a risk factor for developing heart disease.

The report looked at more than 470 children.

Researchers say there was a stronger relationship between wrist bone circumference and insulin levels than the relationship between body mass index and insulin levels.

Some doctors say this makes sense because an increased amount of insulin in the body acts as a growth factor on bone.
