Pastors announce 'safe haven' program for kids

April 14, 2011 (CHICAGO)

They gathered Thursday at the faith family of West Point Baptist Church to announce the Safe Haven Spring Break Program.

The idea is to give students creative and performing arts training along with conflict resolution and anger management classes.

"That we can actually have the numbers to say not one student who has been a part of safe haven has been a victim of any crime or not one student who has been a part of safe haven has been a perpetrator of any crime. So the program is a great success," said Pastor Andre Thurman, St. Mark Internaitional Christian Church of Chicago.

The free program will be offered at 100 neighborhood churches.
