11-year-old Park Ridge boy honored for saving child's life

April 20, 2011 (WASHINGTON)

Jake Vowell is a patrol boy. He helps younger kids on their way to Carpenter Elementary School cross the street safely.

In February of last year two cars failed to stop at a stop sign. A 6-year-old girl was crossing to the street and Jake pulled her to safety.

"She wanted to run to her mom on the other side, she started to run, but then a car was coming, so I pulled her back," said Jake.

Jake has advice for people driving near schools: slow down.
