The incident occurred between 2:45 a.m. and 3:20 a.m. at Manny's Cafeteria & Delicatessen, 1141 S. Jefferson St., police said.
The car reportedly plowed into a tall glass window and a thick brick wall about 2-and-a-half feet tall before fleeing the scene. Police said the wreck knocked the wall over, destroyed the glass and left a hole that is about 4 feet wide and 6 feet tall.
Kenneth Raskin, owner of Manny's, said that a window was broken in a private dining room that was far from the food, cafeteria or cash registers.
"It didn't affect business at all," Raskin said. "It was a pretty lucky place to get hit."
Raskin said he had "no clue" as to the dollar amount of damage to the deli but expects an insurance investigator Monday to inspect the damage.
The establishment is closed on Sunday. Raskin said that the deli will open Monday as scheduled.
