An alarm went off at about 5:40 in New York Jewelers at 11 N. Wabash.
When officers arrived they found a large blank sign facing the store's front display window. They believe burglars put the sign there so no one would see them break in.
Display cases were smashed on the store's second floor, but cases on the first floor were all empty and locked.
