CHA may require residents to undergo drug tests

May 27, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The plan has outraged some residents and housing advocates. The American Civil Liberties Union calls it an effort to place a double standard on the poor. CHA officials argue they need help reducing crime in their developments and drug tests would help.

Under the proposed policy, a positive drug test would be grounds for eviction. A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for June 2 at the Charles Hayes Center at 44th and King Drive.
