Ford is rolling out its new laser-guided robot technology at three different assembly plants including one in Chicago.

The robots are being used on the new 2012 Ford Focus and 2012 Ford Explorer, which are made at the Torrence Avenue plant on the South Side.

They can detect the slightest variations on vehicles as they move down the assembly line during production.

The robots will eventually be used globally.
