Chicago police say they have dismantled several South Side narcotics operations.

Approximately 55 people were arrested this week, including Terrel Smith, 22, and 30-year-old Xavier Wilson, who are both convicted felons.

According to a police news release, Smith is also a gang member and is considered a key target involved in criminal and drugs activity on the Far South Side.

Authorities also say Wilson has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and unlawful use of a weapon/silencer. He was arrested while in possession of several packages of cocaine and a loaded 9-millimeter handgun fitted with a silencer, the release said.

Police say they recovered narcotics, cash and guns, including two Tech 9 machine pistols in the busts.

According to police, the investigation even led officers to additional leads in follow-up investigations.
