In April, Mayor Rahm Emanuel chose a longtime educator in New York state, Jean-Claude Brizard, as the new chief executive officer of the Chicago Public Schools.

A month later, Brizard began a citywide listening tour. He plans to visit a school a day, and meet with students, teachers, principals and parents.

Brizard also was a regional superintendent, and executive director for secondary schools. For the past three years, Brizard has been school superintendent in Rochester, New York.
