The city of East Chicago and the Indiana Department of Transportation are awaiting word from Ameristar Casino on whether it will kick in the funds for the bridge. Ameristar says it is considering the impact of possible additional casinos in Illinois before making its decision.
Highway officials face a deadline next week to advance plans for a $150 million rebuilding of the bridge which closed in 2009 because of safety concerns.
