Grow your own herbs for fresher tasting food

June 21, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Syeda Farid, Registered Dietician at Galter Lifecenter (wellcommunitychicago.org) says there are some common herbs and spices that we all should be eating more of that will boost health. Farid says the calories in herbs and spices are far less than those found in breading, batters, sauces and fried foods, but they can be just as - or more - flavorful.

Basil acts as an anti-inflammatory

Parsley helps keep a heart healthy, helps with high blood pressure and protects against rheumatoid arthritis

Cilantro aids with indigestion and removes toxic metals from the blood

Sage is often administered for sore throats and coughs, and sharpens the senses and/or improves the memory
