Teen, dog killed in north suburban accident

June 21, 2011 (GRAYSLAKE, Ill.)

It happened around 1 a.m. near Route 120 and Almond Road in unincorporated Grayslake.

Police say Taylor Mae Stinchcomb and a 15-year-old friend took her family's van without permission after Stinchcomb learned her parents were considering putting down the family dog. The friend was driving when she lost control of the minivan, hit some trees and flipped over. Stinchcomb died from her injuries.

The driver was treated at the scene.
