Quinn signs bill that OKs special needs 911 device

July 6, 2011

The devices are bracelets that send a message to the 911 operator on behalf of the wearer with the location of the wearer.

"This bill is about safety for some of our more vulnerable citizens, and it's also about peace of mind for families so they know they have all the resources of 911 at their services to help find our vulnerable citizens should they become disoriented and wander off," said State Rep. Karen May (D), Highwood, bill's sponsor.

Previously it was a misdemeanor to use such an automatic alarm.
