Millions of Americans take dietary supplements such as vitamins and weight loss products. Now, the Food and Drug Administration wants stricter rules for these products.

But the proposed changes are not going to come easy.

The FDA wants to change the way manufacturers notify regulators about new ingredients.

Companies are already required to file a safety notification before adding ingredients. But there is concern many are not doing this.

The new rules are supposed to clear up confusion and increase compliance.

One trade group is already asking the government to relax some of the rules.

The FDA now wants the public to weigh in on the proposed changes.
