Girl, 6, injured by falling tree during storm

July 13, 2011 (WINNETKA, Ill.)

As the storm blew in, several children from the Tingle family went into their backyard to bring an umbrella and cushions inside. That's when a nearly 200-year-old Oak tree in a neighbor's yard came crashing down.

Lexie Tingle, 6, was struck but not pinned by the falling tree. She suffered a fractured skull and three broken vertebrae. Ten-year-old Abigail was also injured but not as seriously.

"I heard some groans coming from the neighbor's yard and then some big crashes and I heard my baby brother and my sister's screaming, except not Lexie cause she was silent," said Christian Tingle, brother.

The family hopes Lexie will be able to come home from the hospital in a couple of days.
