Study: Vitamin C may decrease risk of cataracts

July 14, 2011

A study from India finds that participants with diets that have higher Vitamin C levels were less likely to have the eye problem.

Cataracts are a clouding of the eyes lens.

Vitamin C which is an antioxidant is thought to help protect the body's cells from damage. Foods with Vitamin C include citrus fruits, peppers, broccoli and tomatoes.

While researchers say cataract connection is plausible, the report in the journal Ophthalmology does not prove adequate Vitamin C protects against the condition.
