Train for Fort2Base Run at Great Lakes

July 16, 2011 5:18:50 PM PDT
On September 11, history will be made when, for the first time ever, thousands of runners will be allowed on the Great Lakes Naval Base for the inaugural Fort2Base run.

A kickoff for the training group starts July 20. Beth Salinger, co-race director of Fort2Base, joined us in our ABC7 studio to talk about the race and the training runs. The run is part of the base's 100th anniversary celebration.

The race begins at Fort Sheridan in Highland Park and runs along beautiful Green Bay Trail to finish inside the Great Lakes Naval Station. Participants have a choice of two race distances, 10 nautical miles (11.5 miles) or 3 nautical miles (3.45 miles).

Team Salute Inc. is the official charity of this race. There will be family-friendly post-race festivities, including music games and refreshments.
