The 103rd annual Race to Mackinac, one of the world's longest fresh-water competitions, is underway on Lake Michigan.

More than 300 boats entered the 333 mile race from Chicago to Mackinac Island, Michigan.

The race is sponsored by the Chicago Yacht Club.

One boat provided bagpipe music for the occasion and for the spectators.

Some crew members are among the nation's finest sailors.

One bonus for them is that the lake provides a bit of cool relief from Saturday's hot weather onshore.
