Man guilty in girl's CTA bus shooting death

July 21, 2011 (CHICAGO)

A jury says Milton Wardlaw is guilty of first-degree murder.

The shooting happened nearly three years ago on a #71 bus at 71st and Woodlawn.

Julian High School student Kiyanna Salter, 17, was killed.

Wardlaw, 27, turned himself in after his mother recognized him on a surveillance tape and pleaded for him to come forward.

Wardlaw admitted firing a gun at another bus passenger he'd argued with. He testified he was "scared" of the man after the man threatened to shoot him.

But jurors agreed with prosecutors, who argued Wardlaw was not acting in self defense.
