Seventeen cases of salmonella in Illinois are being linked to a multi-state outbreak associated with papayas from Mexico.

The Illinois Department of Public Health says of those cases, eight required hospitalization. Most of the cases are from the Chicago area.

A total of 97 people have been sickened in 23 states.

Agromod Produce of McAllen, Texas has voluntarily recalled all Blondie, Yaya, Mananita and Tastylicious brand papayas distributed nationwide.

If you have the fruit, throw it out or return it to the store where you bought it.
