5 arrested while protesting Addison home eviction

July 29, 2011 (ADDISON, Ill.)

They gathered outside the Addison home of Luz Smedbron and her sons. She says she was injured and had to go on disability. That's when she fell behind on her mortgage payments.

Smedbron tells us she tried getting the bank to modify her loan without any success. She doesn't have any family in the area and doesn't know where she and her sons ages 12, 24 and 26 will go.

"It hurts. It hurts because we don't know what to do and we need some help. We asked for help," Luz Smedbron said.

"There's no help coming from the banks. There's all kinds of federal programs that are supposed to be funded to help people in exactly her situation. But we're not seeing anybody getting any help from those yet," said Holly Krig, Anti-Eviction Campaign.

The protestors face various charges including criminal trespass to property and obstructing a police officer.
