Chicago police 'Ride to Remember' fallen officers

July 31, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Officers and family members started out at Area 4 Police Headquarters on West Harrison. The ride ended at the Chicago Police Memorial on the lakefront just east of Soldier Field Officers laid a wreath, followed by a moment of silence.

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said it's important to never forget those who died in the line of duty.

"We go out every single day, and we don't know what going to happen. And too many times bad things happen. And we make a difference between good and bad, right and wrong. And it takes a special type of person to do that," McCarthy said.

McCarthy reminded people to also remember the families of fallen officers who suffer because of the sacrifices made.
