A northwest suburban man pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon to possessing a deadly toxin taken from the tropical puffer fish.

Edward Bachner of lake-in-the-Hills made his plea in a Rockford federal courtroom. He was arrested after picking up a package containing 1 milligram of puffer fish toxin from an undercover federal agent in 2008.

Investigators wearing suits and masks searched his home.

Bachner also pleaded guilty to wire fraud and income tax fraud. His sentencing is set for December 8.
