The Indianapolis Zoo family is celebrating a historic birth. And the public can see the new baby starting Wednesday.

Kubwa, an African elephant, gave birth to her third calf 13 days ago. She is the first African elephant to successfully conceive and give birth via artificial insemination three times.

The baby weighs 254 pounds and stands about 34 inches tall. She has not been named yet.

A zoo spokesman says, "She's curious about everything... It's all new to her. She's still trying out her feet and trying to figure out her trunk."
