Thousands of CPS students go back to school

Monday was the first day of class for Chicago Public Schools students enrolled in Track E schools, which operate on a year-round schedule.

Approximately 115,000 students at 247 schools are Track E.

New schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard rang a ceremonial bell to start the new school year at Harper High School Monday morning. Brizard is beginning his first year as head of schools.

Reverend Jesse Jackson also welcomed students at Dyett High School. About 115,000 students at 247 schools are on a year-round schedule.

Classes for the remaining CPS schools start September 6.
