A traffic stop led to the discovery of 600 pounds of cannabis in South Elgin, according to police.

That cannabis has a street value of approximately $480,000, police said.

Police say a tip led them to the home at 16 D Ione Drive, where the alleged offender, Claudio Ochoa, 46, lived. They say an officer observed a traffic violation and a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 100 pounds of cannabis in the car.

Ochoa was taken into custody. A search of his residence turned up another 500 pounds of marijuana, police said.
